Ohio Mound Builders

Massive mounds and earthworks, some nearly 70 feet tall and others covering hundreds of acres, are the legacy of the Hopewell and Adena cultures that dominated the eastern United States from 800 B.C. to A.D. 400.  We'll visit many sites including Newark Earthworks, Chillicothe and Serpent Mound.
Native Peoples of Alabama
September 29 - October 3, 2008

A place of natural beauty, Alabama is a state where great rivers and great cultures meet. Join us as we follow in the footsteps of naturalist William Bartram and explore the beauty and history of Alabama - from ancient earthen mounds to Creek War battlefields.  We’ll spend our last day at the Moundville Native American Festival featuring crafts, performances, demonstrations and food.
Maya of Chiapas & Tabasco
January 7 - 17, 2009

This new tour takes us to some of the more out-of-the-way, but spectacular, Maya ruins in southern Mexico that flourished between A.D. 300 and 900.   We begin in the tropical lowlands and end in the fabulous highlands of Chiapas among the modern Maya people.  We’ll see tremendous pyramids, unbelievable sculptures and murals, and modern arts and crafts.  Our guide will be noted Maya scholar Dr. John Henderson of Cornell University.

Belize & Tikal
March 13 - 22, 2009

Explore the southern reaches of the Maya Empire – from the ancient cities found along the coast of Belize to Tikal, located deep within the Guatemalan rain forest.  John Henderson, professor of anthropology at Cornell University and noted author of The World of the Ancient Maya, will accompany the tour.
